Spain suffered an unexpected defeat in the transfer to Scotland in the matches of Group A qualifying for Euro 2024. The Iberian national team was defeated by the numbers 2-0, while at Hampden Park the main protagonist was Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay who scored both goals.

It was Spain's first defeat in almost 40 years against Scotland as after the challenge, coach Luis De La Fuente's players tried to justify the disappointing result. One of them was David Garcia. The defender who is active with Osasuna played his first match with the national team even though he was 29 years old. Garcia blamed the grass on the pitch at Hampden Park Stadium, pointing out that it was longer than it should have been.

"We noticed the length of the grass as soon as we stepped into the stadium, and in the end it turned out to be one of the reasons for the loss. However, I do not want to make excuses, we must take responsibility and find the fault in ourselves. We have to look and study what we did wrong against Scotland. I am happy for the debut with the national team, but it was a heavy loss. They hit us twice and scored. We have to learn and get the best out of this situation", said Garcia.
