Former American ambassador, Alexander Arvizu

The former American ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, stated during an interview in Euronews Albania that the choice of political leaders is a decision that belongs to the Albanian citizens and not to Washington. Arvizu emphasized that the US and the EU cannot interfere in internal political issues, such as the election of political leaders.

“Së pari, unë nuk përfaqësoj më qeverinë dhe nuk kam akses në informacionet zyrtare që çojnë në këto vendimmarrje. Për mua, kur isha ambasador dhe për çdo ambasador amerikan, e rëndësishme është të tregojmë respekt për qytetarët shqiptarë. Shqiptarët e dinë dhe e kuptojnë fare mirë se çfarë do të thotë të respektohen. Respekti duhet treguar në çdo gjë që bën. Edhe pse një vendim që merret, nuk është ai i duhuri, njerëzit e kuptojnë domethënien e tij.

As for the opposition, I think it is more important for the citizens to understand that, whoever you choose as a political leader, between the government and the opposition, it is not a decision that belongs to Washington, nor to the governments of the EU member countries, but a decision for Albania. This must be understood very clearly, it is your opposition, it is also your government. I think that the responsibility of friendly governments like the USA and the EU, because America is interested in Albania, be it Democrats or Republicans. I think it is appropriate to give an opinion with respect, but these kinds of decisions, about who is in the opposition and who is in the government, belong to the Albanian citizens" , said Alexander Arvizu./ CNA.al
