Foreigners spent 4.4 billion euros in Albania/ Albanians abroad 2.1 billion

Both the spending of foreigners traveling to Albania and the money that Albanians take out of their pockets when they go abroad have increased significantly during the first 9 months of this year.

The Bank of Albania announced that for the period January-September, foreign spending in Albania reached a record of 4.4 billion euros, increasing by 14.5% compared to the same period a year ago.

The highest level of spending was in the third quarter of the year, which coincides with the peak of the tourist season. During the summer months, foreigners coming to Albania for tourism or other purposes spent a record 2.3 billion euros, an increase of 21.6% compared to the same period a year earlier.

The significant growth figures published by the Bank of Albania are not in line with the statements of tour operators, who say that tourists coming to Albania are spending less and less, or with large distribution and manufacturing companies that said they had stockpiled goods because they produced too much in anticipation of high consumption from tourism, but were disappointed.

Other INSTAT data also showed that for January-September, 10.2 million foreign citizens entered the country, with an increase of 5.7%. For the period July-September, 5.4 million foreign citizens entered, or 6.2% more than the same period a year earlier.

According to the combined data, the average expenditure per tourist has increased to 431 euros for the 9-month period, from 398 euros in January-September 2024.

Even Albanians do not spare themselves abroad, the balance improves

Albanians' spending abroad has also reached a record level, at 2.1 billion euros, with an increase of almost 20% compared to January-September 2024.

The strong increase in income from foreigners has led to the travel balance, which measures the difference between the spending of foreigners in Albania and Albanians abroad, improving, reaching 2.1 billion euros for the first 9 months of 2025, which is practically the net amount remaining for the country. /Monitor
