Lufthansa posts record revenue/Warns fuel costs will hit annual profit

Lufthansa has reported its highest ever revenue for 2025, reaching 39.6 billion euros, a 5% increase compared to the previous year. The company also recorded a 20% increase in operating profit, reflecting a strong recovery in demand for air travel.

However, the positive financial performance is being offset by rising fuel costs, linked to tensions and conflict in Iran.

According to the company, for 2026 alone, an additional burden of around 1.7 billion euros for fuel is expected, directly impacting annual profit, which is already expected to be lower than initial forecasts.

Due to the avoidance of certain airspaces, flights have become longer and more expensive, increasing fuel consumption and operating costs. As a result, Lufthansa has announced the cancellation of around 20,000 short-haul flights by October as part of efforts to reduce costs.

The company is also investing in fleet modernization to improve fuel efficiency and mitigate long-term impacts. In the meantime, passengers are advised to book as early as possible to avoid higher prices.
