Popullsia e vendeve të Bashkimit Europian është duke regjistruar rënie të frikshme vit pas viti. Ulja e numrit të lindjeve dhe shtimi i vdekjeve kanë vijuar pothuajse në të njëjtin trend në 27 vendet anëtare të bllokut prej disa vitesh.

Kështu pra, pas rënies së parë në vitin 2020, numri i popullsisë së BE vazhdoi të ulet edhe në vitin 2021, duke kaluar, sipas të dhënave të Eurostat, nga 447 milionë në 1 janar 2021 në 446.8 milionë më 1 janar 2022.

Sipas të dhënave të zyrës evropiane të statistikave, rënia më e keqe me minus 253,000 banorë u regjistrua në Itali, ndërsa në vendin e dytë rendite Franca me 185,900 banorë më pak në periudhën e një viti. Sa i pëket vendit të tretë, ai i takon Polonisë, e cila ka humbur 185 mijë e 800 banorë.
