Following the parliamentary diplomacy tour and contacts with Albania's strategic partners in the region and Europe, at the invitation of the Speaker of Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, is conducting an official visit to Athens, where he met with the President of the Greek Parliament.
During the meeting, the two parliament speakers praised the close friendly relations between Albania and Greece, based on common strategic interests, the partnership in NATO for security and peace, as well as the common European perspective.
They underlined the importance of deepening political and parliamentary dialogue in the interest of further developing relations between the two countries.
The Speaker of the Parliament expressed gratitude for Greece's continued support for Albania's European integration process and appreciated the progress achieved in the negotiations with the European Union, reiterating the objective of completing them within 2027.
The President of the Greek Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, reaffirmed his country's support for Albania's membership in the European Union and stressed that the expansion of parliamentary cooperation creates new opportunities for strengthening relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, economic cooperation was also discussed, noting the increase in trade exchanges, investments, infrastructure projects and tourist flows, as evidence of the great potential that exists for further deepening cooperation.
Special attention was paid to the Albanian emigrant community in Greece and the Greek minority in Albania, who constitute important bridges between the two countries and the two peoples.
"The two most important bridges that connect our countries are the Greek minority in Albania and the Albanian community in Greece. On these values, we want to build more prosperity and cooperation between our two countries ," said the Speaker of the Parliament.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of addressing all issues of mutual interest through dialogue and a constructive spirit, in respect of the principles of good neighborliness, international law, and common strategic interests.
Reaffirming the will to further strengthen friendly relations and strategic partnership between Albania and Greece, the two presidents assessed parliamentary cooperation as an important instrument for promoting comprehensive bilateral cooperation, strengthening security, regional stability and promoting peace.
Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi is accompanied on this official visit to Athens by MPs Anila Denaj, Vasil Llajo, Pirro Dhima, Ivi Kaso, Vangjel Dule and Ilirjan Pendavinji, as well as by the Albanian Ambassador to Greece, Luela Hajdaraga. /CNA
