What does the pension agreement with Italy contain/ Who benefits

Albanian citizens, who work and live in Italy, will be recognized for their years of work in Albania when they retire.

Albania and Italy have reached agreement on the technical agreement for the recognition of the pensions of Albanian citizens living in Italy and Italian citizens living in Albania.

The achievement of the technical agreement between Albania and Italy was communicated a few months ago. The talks between Albania and Italy about the agreement reached started years ago and have intensified since 2014.

The beneficiaries of this agreement are expected to be approximately 700,000 Albanian citizens who live and work in Italy.

According to the data of the Institute of Statistics, there are about 50,000 companies with Italian NIPT, that exercise their activity in Albania and that pay social security contributions, which will benefit from this agreement.

The agreed agreement is based on the principle of equal treatment. It covers old-age pensions, sickness and pregnancy benefits as well as unemployment insurance.

The drafting of this agreement was an early request of the Albanian community living in Italy.

Albania has signed about 15 agreements for insurance recognition, starting with Turkey in 2005, and continuing with a number of other countries such as Kosovo, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Germany, etc.

Years of work

In order to receive a pension, both for people living in Albania and for those living outside our country, a minimum of 15 years of insured work is required, while to receive a full old-age pension, 36 years and 8 months of insured work are required.

All years of work that are known as working seniority for pension effect are counted from the age of 16, both for men and women and regardless of the sectors where they worked./ CNA
