Every year in Albania approximately 4 thousand citizens are diagnosed with diabetes.

Along with these cases, there is an increase in people who are blinded by diabetes in the eye.

"Diabetes is a disease that damages the blood vessels, the blood vessels of the brain, the heart and the blood vessels of the eye. "A patient with diabetes must urgently have an eye retina examination once a year", says Pajtim Lutaj, ophthalmologist.

There are often cases that after an eye examination it is discovered that he is suffering from diabetes.

"80-90 percent of cases are preventable," explains the doctor.

Gjithashtu dhe COVID-19 ka ndikuar për keq tek problemet me diabetin, gjë e cila do evidentohet edhe më shumë në vitet e ardhshme”, u shpreh Simon Harding, oftalmolog nga Liverpuli.
