The annual summit of the United Nations on climate change has started work this year in Egypt, with calls for countries to move "from the era of commitments to the era of implementation".

More than 120 world leaders are expected to address the conference, known as COP27.

More than 40,000 people are expected to participate in this event, but some activists have expressed concerns about Egypt's record in the field of human rights.

At the opening of the conference, the UN has published the new report, in which "climate chaos" is described.

The conference called for the energy and food crisis - linked to Russia's war in Ukraine - not to affect measures to combat climate change.

The need to take measures has also been highlighted in the latest report of the UN Meteorological Agency.

In it, scientists have estimated that the Earth's global temperature has increased by 1.15 degrees Celsius since the pre-industrial era and that the last eight years are the hottest on record.

The urgency to deal with this issue has been evident in the past 12 months due to the devastating floods in Pakistan, as well as the extreme heat in India and Europe last summer.

World leaders will speak at this conference on Monday and Tuesday, and after their departure, delegations will begin negotiations on what can be done./ REL
