At the start of the world climate conference COP27 in Egypt, where it will be discussed how to stop global warming, Germany is committed to solidarity and commitment.

On the eve of the world climate conference COP27 in Egypt, Germany called curbing global warming its top priority. "Humanity is heading towards an abyss, towards warming above 2.5 degrees, with devastating effects on our life on the only planet we have," said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The world has all the tools it needs to limit the climate crisis. "We know what needs to be done - to give up fossil energy and rely on renewable energy sources as soon as possible."

Svenja Schulze, Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, said: "At this climate conference, Germany will be an important bridge-builder between industrialized and developing countries. To do this we must recognize that there is already considerable damage climate change, especially in the poorest countries. These countries rightly demand solidarity."

Few damages due to the war in Ukraine

Due to the war in Ukraine, but also due to the energy, food and economic crisis related to it, as well as the increase in the national debt, expectations for the climate conference are quite low. Compared to COP26 a year ago in Glasgow, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier assessed the chances of success as low./ Dw
