Football authorities in Turkey have imposed new penalties as part of an investigation into illegal betting.
The Turkish Football Federation's Disciplinary Committee has punished a total of 224 players and 24 referees. The scandal erupted in the fall and involved players, referees and club directors.
A month ago, over a thousand footballers were referred to the justice system. Among the names previously involved was Galatasaray's Eren Elmal, who was expelled from the national team.
Of the new penalties, most of the players are amateurs, while five referees referee in the elite. The measures range from 45 days to a one-year suspension. The investigation is ongoing and the case remains open.
