Democratic MP Belind Këlliçi today accused the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama of keeping several young opposition protesters under arrest since January 24.

In a statement to journalists before the Tirana Court, Këlliçi said that the act is the embodiment of a criminal group that has captured the state.

Këlliçi said that this form will not create a space for protesting either, on the contrary, more people will gather at the next protest.

"It is a group made up of thugs and not police. What has happened is the embodiment of this criminal group that has taken over the state. The lights were turned off in protest, young people were taken and escorted in simple cars, not police cars."

These measures are completely disproportionate, as these young people have not committed any acts of violence. They are being done to discourage young people from protesting.

There will be more young people in the protest. I am convinced that this has only motivated citizens and young people to come out to the next protest. Rama is trying to normalize corruption, but the attention of the media paid by Albanians is to shift the focus from the problems.

"I am sure that these young people will be close to their families and the next protest will be with higher temperatures than the one we went through," said Këlliçi. /CNA
