Gender Equality Bill/ Gajda: It does not aim to create another gender, but it

Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination Robert Gajda has presented the report for 2024 in the Parliament.

In his speech, Gajda also analyzed the draft law "On Gender Equality" proposed by the majority and said that it is well-written overall, but has been followed by disinformation. Gajda stated that the draft law does not aim to create another gender, but the failure to recognize the rights of some categories is discriminatory.

"The draft law on gender equality has been followed by disinformation. The law as a whole is well done.

Every individual has several affiliations, they can be male, female, Roma, disabled, etc.

A person is discriminated against because of their gender and because of another characteristic. For example, a woman is discriminated against not only because she is a woman but also because she is Roma.

Here the child is violated and therefore the draft law undertakes to educate and distance the child from prejudice. The law does not deal with the regulation of programs, these are regulated by sub-legal acts.

The law does not aim to create another gender.

There was a recommendation from the Council of Europe to recognize the rights of intersex people, and in relation to international conventions, a draft law that does not recognize the rights of a category and does not recognize the coexistence of two people of the same gender is discriminatory.

Albania must either implement the recommendations or withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights.

"I congratulate the Assembly for opening the vacancy for the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination," declared Gajda./ CNA
