The Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, met today in Brussels with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. This visit took place within the framework of the intensification of parliamentary diplomacy and the Parliament's commitments to advance the process of Albania's membership in the European Union.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Assembly expressed his appreciation for the European Parliament's continued support for Albania and stressed that the country's European perspective remains clear, long-term and irreversible. He underlined that membership in the European Union is not a political slogan, but a transformative process of institutions, governance and the daily lives of citizens, emphasizing the political and parliamentary consensus, as well as the broad popular support for the accession process.

The focus of the conversation was Albania's progress in fulfilling the conditions of the negotiations, especially in the chapters related to the rule of law, judicial reform, the fight against corruption and organized crime, as well as the protection of fundamental rights. President Peleshi noted that Albania is the candidate country with the greatest determination and that is moving at the highest speed towards the European family, while the reforms are advancing on the basis of concrete results and measurable indicators.

President Metsola praised Albania's significant progress towards membership, the very good cooperation of the European Parliament with the Assembly, as well as Albania's parliamentary and institutional commitment to accelerating its integration into the European family. The opening of the European Parliament Regional Office in Tirana was considered a clear signal of the European Union's commitment to Albania and its European perspective.
