International Conference on Anti-Semitism/ Rama: Albania, a safe place for Jews

Prime Minister Edi Rama was present this Tuesday at the International Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism being held in Israel.

In his speech, Rama emphasized Albania's role in sheltering Jews after World War II, despite the limited opportunities as a small country, but thanks to the great spirit of the Albanians.

"It is a great honor to stand with the leaders and administrators of the Jewish community, many of whom are also friends of Albania. We are a small country in space and numbers, but with a great spirit. Let me say that a short while ago I learned that the population of Israel exceeded 10 million, and I felt joy because every new Jewish life is a blessing, not only for Israel, but also for the world. A world that is against the Jews can never return to peace. Heritage neither begins nor ends without a cost. When after World War II the Jews were looking for where to escape death, many of them came to Albania and their lives were saved. Through the besa, our sacred word of honor, there was a promise connected to life. They found a safe haven in Albania, it was a reflex and a feeling", said Rama. /CNA
