Boçi-Majority: It is unacceptable that the amendments to the Criminal

The Deputy Leader of the Democratic Party, Luciano Boçi, at the meeting of the Conference of Speakers, accused the majority that laws in parliament are being passed without debate and without transparency.

Boçi said that this is a clear violation of every parliamentary standard. Among other things, he stressed that it is unacceptable that amendments to the Criminal Code, with consequences for society, are passed in the early hours of the morning, without consultation and without transparency.

"You have turned the Albanian Parliament into a worthless institution. Laws are being passed at night, without debate and without transparency, in clear violation of every parliamentary standard. Bring 20 draft laws to the session at once, without any attention, without discussion and without real involvement of the opposition. This way of functioning strips the Parliament of its constitutional role.

"It is unacceptable and scandalous that important changes to the Criminal Code, with profound consequences for society, are passed at 3 am, without consultation, without transparency. Increase the number of parliamentary sessions. We as the opposition tell you that we are ready to work. But you do not want a debate. Your strategy is clear. To let important laws, laws that directly affect the social, economic and public life of citizens, go up in smoke. This is not a coincidence, but a deliberate strategy to avoid accountability, to bypass the opposition and to undermine parliamentary democracy ," said Boçi. /CNA
