Ukraine warns of the EU summit in Kiev during February

Ukraine and the European Union will hold a summit in Kiev on February 3 to discuss financial and military support, President Volodymyr Zelensky's office said, but the EU on Tuesday did not confirm the location of the summit.

Zelensky discussed details of the high-level meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in his first phone call of the year, the office said in a statement on Monday.

“Palët diskutuan rezultatet e pritshme të samitit të ardhshëm Ukrainë-BE që do të mbahet më 3 shkurt në Kiev dhe ranë dakord të intensifikojnë punën përgatitore”, thuhet në deklaratë.

They also discussed a new 18 billion euro ($19 billion) financial aid program for Ukraine, with the Ukrainian leader calling for the first tranche to be sent this month, the statement said.

Last month, the EU cleared the way to help Ukraine in a so-called "megadeal" that included the adoption of a minimum global tax rate of 15 percent.

The move was preceded by a plea from Zelensky not to allow internal disputes within the 27-nation bloc to hinder Kiev's support./ REL
