President Joe Biden said the Supreme Court won't rule until June on a pandemic-era executive order that allows U.S. officials to quickly deport immigrants caught at the U.S.-Mexico border. The Executive Order, known as Title 42, was passed during the Trump administration and has been opposed by President Joe Biden. The following material provides the details.
The United States Supreme Court decided to uphold the order, known as Title 42, which enables the immediate deportation of immigrants caught at the US-Mexico border.
President Biden reacted after the court decision.
Immigration activists sued to end the policy, saying it runs afoul of US and international commitments to all those who leave their countries to escape persecution. They have also argued that the order is already out of date, as it does not reflect the current situation regarding the coronavirus, which has already improved.
The decision of the Supreme Court comes at a time when thousands of immigrants have gathered on the Mexican side of the border, filling temporary shelters, and creating concerns about how they will be treated in the future./ VOA
