Due to labor shortages as well as low pensions, more and more people in Germany continue to work after retirement.
1,066,895 pensioners, according to the latest data from the German authorities, have continued to work even though they are 67 years old or older. The media reports that the number of employees aged 67 and over has continued to increase in the last year in Germany. The Editors' Network in Germany (RND), referring to a response from the federal government sent at the request of the Left party, reports that 1,066,895 employees in Germany are currently 67 years of age or older, which is about 15,000 more than a year ago. While compared to 2015, the number of pensioners who have continued to work has increased by 200,000. In the government's response, it is stated that in the meantime, the number of employees over 70 years old has increased to over 400,000, while around 138,000 are even over 75 years old.
Poverty among pensioners

Bartsch calls for a minimum pension of 1,200 euros per month. In light of record inflation, major pension reform is becoming increasingly urgent, says Bartsch. He called for the pension level to be increased to 53 percent of the former salary. He also thinks that a minimum pension of at least 1,200 euros should be introduced. "We need a pension fund into which all citizens pay - including MPs, civil servants, the self-employed and heads of the ARD", said the head of the parliamentary group./ DW
