Kosovo will host five Afghan journalists

Kosovo will host for two years five Afghan journalists, who are fleeing persecution in their country. They will be able to continue their work from Kosovo.

On December 28, the Government of Kosovo approved a budget of 30,000 euros for housing Afghans.

"This amount covers the expenses for the remaining period of 2022. The identification and selection of journalists will be done by the European Federation of Journalists and the European Center for Freedom of the Press and Media, in cooperation with the Government of Kosovo", said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti.

In addition to the budget for their housing, the Government also approved the request for temporary protection for Afghan journalists.

This is the second project that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora is implementing for foreign journalists. The same accommodation and conditions were offered to journalists from Ukraine, after the start of the Russian occupation.

After the Taliban regained power in August of last year, Kosovo accepted the request of the United States for the shelter of Afghan refugees, who were endangered by the Taliban.

Kosovo has temporarily sheltered 1,893 Afghan refugees and then they were sent to the USA and other countries./REL
