KFOR responds to Serbia's request to send forces to Kosovo/ The document is

The Serbian Ministry of Defense said on Friday evening that it received the response from the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo to the request for the deployment of Serbian security forces in Kosovo, but did not give further details.

The answer was received at the border crossing between Serbia and Kosovo, in Merdar, it is said in a short announcement in which it is emphasized that the document was delivered to the cabinet of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

On December 16, KFOR forces said they received a letter from Serbia, which requests the return of up to a thousand members of its security forces to Kosovo.

Beogradi i referohet Rezolutës 1244 të Këshillit të Sigurimit të Kombeve të Bashkuara, të vitit 1999 në të cilën parashihej kthimi i një numri të personelit ushtarak dhe policor jugosllav për të kryer disa funksione si “ndërlidhja me misionin civil ndërkombëtar dhe me praninë ndërkombëtare të sigurisë; shënjimin/pastrimi i fushave të minuara; mbajtjen e një pranie pranë objekteve të trashëgimisë serbe; mbajtjen e një pranie në vendkalimet kryesore kufitare”.

Kosova në atë kohë cilësohej pjesë e asaj që kishte mbetur nga ish Jugosllavia. Nëntë vjet pas miratimit të Rezolutës 1244, Kosova shpalli pavarësinë e saj që njihet nga vendet kryesore perëndimore, por kundërshtohet nga Serbia dhe aleatja e saj Rusia.

Rezoluta përcaktoi edhe mandatin e forcave paqeruajtëse të NATO-s që kujdesen për sigurinë e Kosovës, të cilat nuk dhanë të premten hollësi rreth përgjigjes ndaj kërkesës serbe që pasoi tensionet e fundit në veriun e Kosovës, ku për rreth tri javë ne radhë grupe qytetarësh serbë mbajtën të të bllokuara rrugët kryesore në shenjë proteste ndaj arrestimit të një ish polici serb nën dyshimet për sulm ndaj autoriteteve. Bllokadat u larguan më 29 dhjetor pasi ish polici u dërgua në arrest shtëpie.

The American envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said earlier that the United States rejects the return of Serbian security forces, stressing that "the crisis should not be militarized. This is not the moment to use the army, it is the time for diplomacy, dialogue and compromise as well as for imagination, to think about what the future of the region will bring."

Among the European diplomats was the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock who described the Serbian request as completely unacceptable.

Belgrade's request has been described by the authorities in Kosovo as a threat of aggression.

A part of the opposition in Serbia said that such a request is unrealizable and is being used for the internal needs of the Serbian government./ VOA
