Kazakhstan can supply oil to Germany

Kazakhstan is allowed, according to its own declarations, to use the Russian pipeline infrastructure to transport oil to Europe. "We have verbal confirmation," Kazakh Energy Minister Bolat Akchulatov was quoted as saying by Russian news agency Interfax.

From January, up to 20,000 tons of Kazakh oil can be pumped to Germany. But according to Aktchoulatov, an official Russian authorization is still needed to set the exact date for the start of shipments.

According to Akchulatov, Kazakhstan can send 1.5 million tons of crude oil to Germany during the year. Moreover, this country could increase its exports by 6 to 7 million tons per year.

Therefore, the PCK refinery in Schwedt (Uckermark), in particular, is looking for alternatives to Russian oil. The refinery is important for the supply of East Germany. The German Ministry of Economy recently announced that the supply of Kazakh oil to the PCK refinery was scheduled for January.

Since the end of December, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak had announced that Russian leaders were in principle ready to make available the pipeline for the export of Kazakh oil.

The "Druzhba" gas pipeline was built from 1959 to 1964 and starts from Russian territory to reach Western Europe in three sections. The northern section runs from Poland to the Schwedt refinery in Germany./DW
