An Albanian was caught in Great Britain transporting cannabis by car.

Foreign media reports that 20-year-old Pjerin Lleshi was stopped in a black Audi on Ponteland Road, Newcastle on July 3 of this year.

Lleshi got out of the driver's side and tried to run away, but was caught after a foot chase.

In the boot of the car, officers found two large bags containing several large vacuum packs of cannabis worth around £42,000 and a Nokia phone.

The 20-year-old denied any involvement with drugs, while defense lawyer Brian Mark said Pjerin Lleshi had been paid between £300 and £400 to take the car from one place to another and did not know what was inside it.

"He didn't see the bags, he didn't know how much cannabis there was. "He had no idea that it was 9 kilograms," said the lawyer.

Lleshi pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and was jailed for seven and a half months at Newcastle Crown Court. Due to the time he was kept in custody, he will be released immediately./ BA – CNA.al
