Albanian Geological Survey: Landslides in Arra e Gurrës caused by heavy

Ardian Bylyku, director of the Albanian Geological Survey, announced in a press conference that the landslides in the Arra e Gurrës area are a consequence of heavy rainfall and the geological conditions of the terrain.

He stressed that such phenomena have occurred from time to time in the 1960s and 1970s and depend on a combination of factors, such as the shape and composition of the terrain, which is often not firm and accumulates water. The funnel in the area has reached its maximum water capacity, accelerating landslides.

Bylyku ??added that obtaining geological information from authorities is essential for preventing risks and ensuring the stability of infrastructure.

"In these formations, the stability of the infrastructure has existed for a long time, there are geological effects that are seen. This time it has happened as in many cases in different places, thanks to rainfall, landslides have occurred, they occur for several factors, in part of a series of factors there is the shape of the terrain, the composition of the terrain that are not solid, there are structures that accumulate water and release it into the Arra e Gurrës, the funnel has reached maximum water capacity.

"The area in question has phenomena that have been recorded since the 60s and 70s. Even from the authorities' point of view, obtaining geological information is basic," Bylyku ??said./ CNA
