Rama: SPAK has caught the government thieves
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated in an interview for the show "Opinion" that SPAK is identifying and cracking down on corruption as well as catching government thieves.

Rama said that he does not feel responsible for the corruption in his government. The number 1 of the government emphasized that it will not interfere in the work of SPAK, which has put socialist mayors and officials behind bars.

Part of the interview

Fevziu: A few days ago you gave one of the longest speeches in your political career regarding the issue of corruption, regarding the reaction that the Socialist Party should have. It cannot be said that the Socialist Party has received a blow, almost a collapse related to corruption.

Rama: Wow.

Fevziu: A party that directors make and give tenders to themselves if it is true, because we will wait for justice to be given, but so far from the file we have seen. A party that has so many ministers and party leaders in jail.

Rama: I have worked with over 40 ministers and of these ministers there are 3 or 4 in 10 years. The Socialist Party only strengthens and expands.

Fevziu: Are you responsible for this corruption that SPAKU has identified?

Rama: I am responsible for the fact that this corruption is becoming evident, because if it wasn't for the Socialist Party, there wouldn't be SPAK.

Fevziu: Was this a corrupt system set up or is it a matter of individuals?

Rama: There is no established corruption system, because if there was an established corruption system as it is interpreted, Albania would not be at the negotiating table. The European Commission is the only institution that has tens and hundreds of people engaged who deal 24/7 with the facts. Neither the television, nor the newspapers, nor the parties, nobody deals with the facts 24/7. They deal and they know exactly what is what. Second, I brought the examples there that we have set up systems and are continuing to set up systems that have reduced corruption, corruption has not been set up. Thirdly, this is explained by the fact that there is an in-depth fight against corruption and what is emerging is the result of this fight.

Fevziu: Do you yourself feel tainted by this corruption?

Rama: I stained?

Fevziu: Criminally, you have no charges, but you have your spokesman on the run, you have ministers in prison.

Rama: This is a reason to say hello to the Socialist Party. Because the Socialist Party is the first and only political force in the history of the Albanian state since 1912 that has removed political control and that says very simply: "I don't want to know at all whether you are the spokesperson, whether you are the friend, whether you are the other, or you are the other… At this point there are no friends, no spokesperson, nothing else but an instant separation, that's it.

Fevziu: Who would you call your political responsibility?

Rama: I would say if no former minister of the Socialist Party had been caught, if none of the directors who have been caught had been caught, if only those from the other side had been brought to justice. This would be a very big political responsibility. If it were true that there is a massive theft of tenders in Albania...

Fevziu: This is what SPAKU is saying.

Rama: SPAK is not saying anything, except that it is identifying and hitting as I should do certain cases, while the generalization that these who were caught are all you do. The truth is, if it were so, we wouldn't have saved nearly 1 billion euros from tenders, we wouldn't have a number of economic operators who win competitions almost 3 times more than those who won before we came./ CNA
