One region, common vision

The General Secretary of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Majlinda Bregu participated in the Summit of Western Balkan Leaders held today in Kotor, called "One region, common vision", with a focus on bringing the region closer to the EU through the Plan of the EU Growth and Common Regional Market (CRM) Action Plan.

BP leaders expressed their appreciation for the tangible results produced by the Common Regional Market Action Plan (CRM) coordinated by the RCC, as a catalyst for inter-regional trade and economic integration in the Western Balkans.

"The Common Regional Market is a 'gateway' for progressive integration into the EU's single market and socio-economic convergence with the EU, as the path to enhanced economic consolidation with the EU market passes through a Single Market Joint Regional "without obstacles". The results of the implementation of the current CRM are indicative and evidence the real tangible transformative socio-economic impacts of multiple regional policy agendas, but they are also pointing to the still untapped potentials of economic integration that can still be unleashed so that growth of 10% can be added to our economies", Bregu said at the meeting.

BP leaders expressed their readiness to adopt the Common Regional Market Action Plan 2025-2028 at the 2024 Berlin Process Leaders' Summit and invited the RCC, in cooperation with relevant regional partners, to coordinate this new phase of the Market , as well as to continue supporting and facilitating the involvement of parliaments in the Berlin Process and other regional integration agendas.

"Given the various scenarios of the long-term alignment of our region with the EU, not even a single perspective towards this approach should be lost. We cannot create a common market in BP if human capital is left aside. Boosting labor mobility within our region could add a significant 1.3% to GDP by 2025 and generate 80,000 new jobs. A favorable and competitive environment can drive annual growth by 2%, attract up to 6.5% more investment and raise the rate of job growth by up to 1% per year, while increasing SME productivity by 5 % to 10%. Therefore, the new CRM will focus on increasing human capital and developing skills, but also on promoting digital transformation and creating a business-friendly environment and increasing competition," added Bregu.

Leaders also welcomed the adoption of the Growth Plan (GP) by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU and reiterated their commitment to embrace the opportunities of the GP, including intensified efforts to follow up on past commitments under the Berlin Process, especially the full implementation of the Mobile Phone Agreements.

The General Secretary of the RCC emphasized that in the future the RCC, together with all authorities and key partners, will work towards concretizing the next CRM Action Plan with actionable measures, expected results and timeline of implementation - to be ready for adoption at the next Berlin Process Summit.

The next meeting of the leaders of the Western Balkans "Six on the Growth Plan" will take place in Bosnia and Herzegovina./ CNA
