Electric cars, Directorate of Road Transport: In January-April, 92% more new

The first four months of the year have marked a significant increase in electric vehicles registered with the General Directorate of the Road Transport Service in the country.

Statistics made public by this institution show that in January-April, 92 percent more electric vehicles were registered compared to the same period a year ago.

"DPSHTRR based on its mission for a fleet of green vehicles (green/friendly to the environment)-, attaches increased importance to analyzing statistics on electric vehicles.

January - April 2024, presents motivational figures where: All Electric vehicles are 818 registered vehicles. They are 370% more compared to January-April 2022 and 92% more compared to January-April 2023" estimates DPSHTRR.

Meanwhile, according to the data, 16.9% of electric vehicles, registered, were with zero kilometers, that is, they are put into circulation for the first time. This is 7 percent more compared to January April 2023. In April the fleet of only electric vehicles was 4,120 vehicles.

The data also analyzes vehicles that are hybrids.

Electric / Hybrid Plug-In vehicles were 1,529 registered. This is 261% more compared to January-April 2022, 99% more compared to January-April 2023. 37% of the cars registered for the first time are Electric / Hybrid Plug-In. At the end of April, the fleet of Electric/Hybrid Plug-In vehicles was 8,574 vehicles, or more than 13 times compared to 2019," says DPSHTRR statistics.

While the interest in electric vehicles is always higher, it seems that what limits this growth to be faster is the lack of charging infrastructure for these vehicles.

The Energy Regulatory Body reported in the 2023 annual report that during the past year, 26 new points for electric car charging units were installed, namely in Durrës 2 with an installed capacity of 250 kWh, while in Tirana there are a total of 26 contracts with capacity installed 2565 cu.

"Although the total number of electric vehicles has had a steady increase for more than half a decade, many companies and individual consumers are still not aware of how electric cars compare to traditional fuel-powered cars", underlined ERE./ Monitor
