Restrictions on gifts and employment in private companies/ Begaj sets up

The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, has decreed the law "On the Prevention of Conflict of Interest", establishing stronger rules for senior public officials and their family circle.

The law provides clear prohibitions for officials in high constitutional positions, members of the government, deputies and mayors, who, together with their family members, are not allowed to own shares or engage in business activities that benefit from state property or funds.

Another important point of the law is the limitation of gifts. Officials are prohibited from accepting gifts above a certain value of up to 10,000 lekë, in an effort to avoid inappropriate influences in the performance of their duties.

The law also imposes restrictions on former officials. They will not be able to be employed in management positions in private companies that were related to the institution where they served, for a period of up to two years after the end of their mandate.

This law aims to increase transparency and strengthen mechanisms against abuse of office, aiming to increase public trust in state institutions./ CNA
