Chaos in Qafë Thanë/ Around 30 trucks are blocked, waiting for several days

Drivers of heavy vehicles have been waiting for days to cross the Qafë-Thanë border crossing. The reason is the destruction of the road segment that was followed as the usual route for the Qafë Thanë-Elbasan movement.

As a result, many trucks have been forced to change their route and transit through the territory of North Macedonia, which has led to an immediate increase in traffic at the border crossing and the creation of waiting lines.

According to Albanian authorities, during the last 24 hours, 1,510 citizens have entered Qafë Thanë and 1,703 citizens have exited, an indicator of the increase in movement at this border point, which is facing a higher volume than usual as a result of forced traffic diversions.

The situation at the Qafë Thana border crossing is also difficult for truck drivers, who have been waiting in line to cross the border for several days. According to some Turkish truck drivers, they have been stuck for two to three days, waiting for the convoy to move.

Truck drivers say they have faced a lack of food, water and basic conditions, while the situation is made even more difficult by the prolonged stay in the truck cabins. Many of them point out that they have families and children waiting for them at home, while the long delays add to their stress and insecurity.

In makeshift conditions, one of the Turkish truck drivers was seen cooking next to his vehicle, among the lined-up trucks, trying to secure a hot meal after long hours of waiting. The footage shows the difficulties faced by heavy-duty truck drivers as the queue continues to move at a slow pace. /CNA
