The Criminal Court of Appeals sentences Agron Shehaj

The GJKKO has found the leader of the Opportunity Party, Agron Shehaj, guilty of insult, a lawsuit filed by Adriatik Lapaj.

The court sentenced Shehaj to a fine of 300 thousand new lek.

"1. The injured party, the accuser Adriatik Lapaj, on 01.04.2025, filed a request with the Court for the trial of the criminal case against the accused citizen Agron Shehaj, accused of committing the criminal offenses of "Insult" and "Defamation", respectively provided for by articles 119/2 and 120/2 of the Criminal Code.

2. At the end of the trial, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a panel composed of Judge Erjon Çela, based on Articles 59, 112, 379, 384, 388/1/b, 390, 393 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as well as Articles 119/2 and 120/2 of the Criminal Code, with decision no. 4, dated 21.01.2026, decided:

1. The guilty plea of ??the accused Agron Shehaj for committing the criminal offense of "Insult", provided for by Article 119/2 of the Criminal Code and, based on this provision, his punishment with a fine of 300,000 (three hundred thousand) lek.

2. The declaration of innocence of the accused Agron Shehaj for committing the criminal offense of "Defamation", provided for by Article 120/2 of the Criminal Code, since the alleged fact does not constitute a criminal offense.

3. The deadline for paying the fine will be 6 (six) months from the date of receipt of the

finality of this decision.

4. The court costs are to be borne by the accused Agron Shehaj.

5. An appeal against this decision may be filed with the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime within 15 days, the deadline which begins on the day following the notification of the decision," the GJKKO decision states. / CNA
