The General Director of Railways, Ergys Verdho, delivered his speech at the conference held on the blockade of the Librazhd-Pogradec road axis.

Verdho said that the collapsed massif had a landslide that was activated 30 years ago. He further added that all structures are on the ground and are working to solve the problem.

"The Elbasan-Pogradec railway segment is in this second phase of the detailed project. The entire line has not been included in the operation since 2012 and is monitored from time to time by vehicle observers who make monthly reports to the Directorate of Infrastructure. At kilometer 103-700, i.e. in Dragostunje, part of this segment, as a result of rainfall and the increase in the volume of the Shkumbin River, we have had increased problems in this kilometer, where I would add that the massif, not the road or the railway, the massif of that area has a landslide that was activated 30 years ago.

So this massif, loaded by the rains of the last four months, was made possible by many different factors, such as the rain, the volume of being in this kilometer, as well as the Shkumbin River with its bed increase and collision with the railway bed, made the sliding plan possible. All our structures are on the ground, the necessary measures have been taken. Our permanent consultants as well as those of Civil Engineering are working to solve the problem. We will take measures to mobilize and divert the waters on that slope by building dams on the Shkumbin River.

We hope that the rains will not be present. All roads or railways are directed by consultancies and supervision is present. The consultancy that is doing the railway is Suez, one of the largest companies contracted for Corridor 8. The second phase from Rrogozhina to Pogradec and the connection with RMV is in the hands of a prestigious company that will be completed in March 2027. We are currently conducting a topographical investigation, in the spring and summer we will conduct a geological investigation, due to atmospheric conditions. Detailed structural projects will be prepared. The level of the tunnels will be raised", said Verdho. /CNA
