The collapse of the National Theater

The Alliance for the Protection of the Theater has announced citizens and artists to gather today at 18:30 at the square of the National Theater, as it marks 4 years since the collapse of the building.

In the reaction, it is emphasized that the stand and the battle will continue unconditionally, until the arrest of the mobster Veliaj and his imprisonment. 

"Dear Centrists, Friends and Supporters of the Alliance for the Protection of the Theater. We invite you to join us tomorrow, May 17, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., at the National Theater Square. When it's been 4 years since the barbaric demolition of the icon of Tirana and Albania , we gather tomorrow at that Holy Square, which we never betrayed for anything, not to pay homage, but to show that as a result of our unconditional battle, we are very close to victory. Our focus and battle of 7 years, with 48 complaints in SPAK, with 1 victory in the Constitutional Court, with a request accepted in the ECHR, forced the latter to summon the murderer of the Theater and Tirana, the bandit Erion Veliaj. Our center and battle will continue unconditionally, until arresting the mobster Veliajt, and putting him behind bars. Likewise, we assure the public that with the money of those who demolished it, we will rebuild the theater as it was." , says the reaction. 

Today marks 4 years since the collapse of the National Theater building in Tirana.

Despite the promises that a modern theater will be built, the space surrounded for the construction of the new theater continues to be empty. 

We remember that on Sunday, May 17, 2020, the vandals demolished the walls of the old building where many objects with artistic and spiritual values ??ended up in a pile of rubble.

4 years ago, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, vowed that the new National Theater would be completed before the end of his second term, i.e. in 2023. But such a thing has not happened and there are not a few promises that have not been kept by the head of the Municipality of Tirana. /CNA
