Why Ilir Meta is afraid to resign as president?

Ilir Meta, the president elected by Socialist Party, has started the electoral campaign, as if
he were the chairman of a party in the race, although he has formally left his wife, Monika Kryemadhi, at the head of the SMI.
Meta has stated that on April 25 will be held a referendum, and he is doing everything for this purpose. In fact, on April 25 there are parliamentary elections, where Meta’s party and the divided opposition are competing against Edi Rama.
Meta has started campaigning. He meets secretly people, distributes decorations, and does everything for the sake of the upcoming elections, but he does this as president and not as party chairman.
This “fighter” who claims to have the support of the people, doesn’t have the courage to leave the post of president, and go on the ground in front of Edi Rama, or really lead the opposition, which with Basha and Kryemadhi doesn’t seem to be on the right direction.
Meta tries to get his message and his work out of the chair of the President of the Republic. But if he is a brave man, and has so much political morality, why Ilir Meta doesn’t resign and lead a united opposition? There are two answers:he knows that couldn’t win, or he cannot stay without a high official position.
By leaving the post of president and going out on the field, Meta would further increase the hopes of the SMI people who are leaving his party, and who are all going to both Rama and the Democratic Party. But Ilir Meta, more than the plight of the elections on April 25, has the plight of his post as president, as he cannot stay without power.
The time left in this duty is not long. But Meta will be at the head of the state in the hope that he can be re-elected. And for this reason he is also playing the political game. So Meta wants another term as president and not the victory of the opposition, otherwise he would have left the chair which he cannot leave, also because of the many nightmares he has from his corruption scandals. That is why today we don’t have a president who wants a popular referendum, but a corrupt politician at the head of the state, who wants as much power as possible./ CNA.al
